A patient in the Valaichenai Base Hospital pediatric ward built by UNICEF in 2008. The hospital serves the 100,000 Tamil and Muslim community of Valaichenai who are tsunami and conflict-affected community. The pediatric ward can accommodate up to 200 children. The government are in the process of developing a maternity ward in the same building.
