Imran Khan and Tehrik-e-insaaf party workers spend time with communities in the Balakot district affected by the October 2005 earthquake which killed over 70,000 people in Pakistan. Khan and his party Tehrik-e-insaaf have raised funds to provide relief to several communities affected by the earthquake.
Cricketer Imran Khan made his Test debut against England in 1971. He became captain of the Pakistan team in 1982 and lead them to World Cup victory in 1992 after which he retired.
Imran Khan established the Tehrik-e-insaaf (or Moverment for Justice) in 1996. Through Tehrik-e-insaaf, Khan has demanded that the Pakistan government make institutional reforms to address corruption and end the present dictatorship. Khan would like a more equitable distribution of resources in Pakistan, the granting key civil liberties and an increas in public service spending. He is particularly scathing of the relationship between President Musharraf and US President Bush.
Imran Khan became a Member of the Pakistani Parliament for Mianwali, Panjab, in the October 2002 elections.
