A scene of the river Ganges from Machua ("Fisherman") Toli in Patna city. This poor neighbourhood of Patna is without proper sanitation and residents must use the area around the banks of the river to defecate. Unicef focuses resources on Machua Toli, encouraging polio vaccination in a variety of ways. These include introducing the issue of polio at ijtema meetings. These regular meetings, at which health-care is discussed in the context of the Koran, have provided an opportunity for Unicef to introduce the subject of polio vaccination. ..Photo: Tom Pietrasik.Patna, Bihar, India..November 17th 2006
